Catching a Rising Star...

Late last spring, Bray won 2nd place at the Opera Birmingham competition. We were thrilled he did so well, and thought that was that. Later in the summer, though, Bray received a call from the director of Opera Birmingham, asking if he would do a solo recital for their fall series. It was to be heavily opera-themed music, and they asked if I would accompany him! The recital was just a few days before Halloween, and between several other performances/trips for both of us. Although life was insane for much of October, we managed to get the music ready (with some coachings from good friends and heads of the voice and piano departments at ULM) and headed to beautiful Birmingham to perform. We both had an amazing time, and though I've never been more nervous in my life, it was a privilege to play for my favorite tenor, person and entertainer. Steve, Wendy and Charity were able to come and the weekend was an all-around success.

CATS!

Since our move to Monroe, I have music-directed several productions at the local community theatre, Strauss Theatre Center. I absolutely love this job, and hope to continue on this path as we move other places. Our latest big-and I mean BIG-production we did was Andrew Lloyd Weber's CATS. Now, I of course knew the song 'Memory' before beginning this venture, but that was about it. I had never seen the show, and wasn't sure how much I would love it. Strauss teamed up with a local ballet company for dancers, the Lousiana Delta Ballet Company, and so the undertaking was enormous. Once again I was working with Jon Baccarini, general manager and his brother, Greg Baccarini, who choreographed/directed the show. From start to finish, it was a fabulous experience, and even though I saw every rehearsal, heard every note hundreds of times, and watched them practice the dances repeatedly, I never got tired of it! I was truly glad to be a part of this opportunity. Here are just a few pics from it:

someone LOVES dancing and practiced many of the moves at home...this was also why we made her costume for halloween be from CATS.
